Manager, People & Culture - Field Operations

Greater Toronto Area or Ottawa, Ontario

About the Role

Our client is a fast-growing, Canadian-owned building services and construction contractor approaching $2B in annual revenue. With a national footprint, an award-winning safety record and a strong project backlog, the organization is scaling quickly and investing in the internal capabilities needed to support its next stage of growth.

Reporting into the People & Culture function, the Manager, People & Culture – Field Operations is a newly created, national role. Approximately two-thirds of the organization's workforce is unionized and project-based. This leader will bring dedicated labour relations and P&C expertise directly into the field, building trusted relationships with field leaders, employees, Health & Safety and union representatives, and moving the organization toward a proactive, strategic model of field support.

This is a builder and practitioner mandate. The successful candidate brings 5+ years of progressive HR, P&C or labour relations experience supporting a unionized workforce, with deep practical experience in collective agreement interpretation, grievances and investigations. They are equally comfortable resolving complex matters hands-on and defining the systems, capabilities and structure the field needs long term. Experience in construction, infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing or industrial services is strongly preferred. The role is field-based, with significant time spent on project sites.

Key Focus Areas

  • Labour & employee relations: collective agreement interpretation, grievances, arbitrations, discipline and workplace investigations
  • Field leader partnership: a visible P&C presence on project sites and hands-on coaching for field leaders
  • Workforce planning: project resourcing, talent pipelines and employee transitions between projects, in partnership with Talent Acquisition
  • P&C program deployment: bringing employee experience, psychological safety and leadership development initiatives into the field
  • Future-state field P&C model: assessing current support and defining the processes, reporting, resources and structure required for growth
